Pregnancy Care

Once you discover you are pregnant, the excitement begins. It is a good idea to go along to see your GP to confirm your pregnancy with a blood test or ultrasound, then plan to come to OGB to see your Obstetrician for your first visit between 8 and 10 weeks.

When you come to see your OGB specialist, he or she will go over your medical history with you, perform a physical examination and ultrasound, and work with you to develop a plan for your pregnancy care and your baby’s birth.

Antenatal visits

Antenatal visits are an enjoyable and important part of your pregnancy care. You will have a visit with your Obstetrician every 4 weeks until about 30 weeks and then every 2 weeks until 36 weeks. Weekly visits are required from 36 weeks until you give birth so that we can carefully monitor you and your baby.

During your pregnancy care, investigations to confirm your and your baby’s health will be organised.  If you are having a more complex pregnancy, for example, if you have diabetes, elevated blood pressure, or are having twins, there will be some variation in these plans, and your Obstetrician will discuss these with you.

Practice Midwives

During your antenatal care you will meet and undergo a consultation with one of the OGB midwives.  Julianne, Cherise, and Megan are calm, kind and knowledgeable Midwives who will offer you a midwife’s perspective of pregnancy, birth and feeding babies.  Each of our midwives are experienced and currently practicing in a hospital setting as well as working at OGB.  It is likely that you will have them involved in some way in your care during your hospital stay. It is lovely to see a familiar face during this time.

As midwives provide much of the emotional care during the time of your baby’s birth, and the physical care during the postnatal period, we see their involvement as a way of enhancing the continuity and quality of your care.
