Fibroids

Menstrual Disorders

Fibroids are benign growths which develop in, or on the outside of, the uterus. About 40% of women have a fibroid, and many of these cause no symptoms.

Large or numerous fibroids in the uterus can cause heavy bleeding, pain, pressure, or fertility problems.

The larger a fibroid is, and the closer it is to the uterine cavity, the more likely it is to cause symptoms or fertility problems. Most fibroids don’t require specific treatment, but if they are causing symptoms, your OGB Gynaecologist will carefully assess you, and provide advice for the treatment of your fibroids.

There are a range of treatment options for fibroids, including hysteroscopic or laparoscopic surgery.
